New Look

I’ve changed the layout again. The site has forged its own identity apart from the ring. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to change the layout so all the resources are equally accessible. Of course, a name change was required. Since I already have the domain WCVW, I figured “Water-Cooled Volkswagen World” fit perfectly. Hopefully, no one out there has a site by the same name – if you know of one, let me know.

December Stats

I’m sure you’re all sitting on the edge of your seats in anticipation of the December stats. Ok, I’m not fooling anybody. Anyhow, the ring homepage was viewed roughly 1100 times in December. 17500 people browsed member pages and the the ring code was clicked on 1300 times.

Website Changes

The site has been cosmetically overhauled. Here’s what’s new:

  • All GIFs have been replaced by PNGs. (Read why!)
  • Minor changes to the title graphic and ring image.
  • Sponsorship banners and buttons have been added. (Read why!)
  • Rewrote the Add a Site page to provide more explanation.
  • Realized my mistake and dumped most of the cheesy merchandise. I left the page up for future use. The magazines are still available on there as I think they’re worth promoting.
  • A whole bunch of changes to the HTML code make the site cleaner and more accessible, but you can’t see them.

Your comments are welcome!

Welcome to the new home of The Water-Cooled Volkswagen Ring!

If you arrived here by any address other than please be sure to update your bookmarks, as I don’t know how long the redirect pages will last. This new address means that if we ever need to change hosts, there will be no need to change site ring codes or bookmarks.

Our new home isn’t the only thing that’s changed! The ring is leaving due to major changes being implemented by Yahoo (Yahoo acquired when it bought Geocities 2 years ago.) If you want more details, click here.

We are now using an open source CGI program called Ringlink. Ringlink is everything used to be, and better. It can’t be bought out and commercialized because it’s open source. More importantly, it runs on my server, so we have full control over any changes that will be made.

Ring Members: If you have not yet done so, click on Add a Site and re-submit your pages to the new software. Be sure to cut and paste the new ring code in place of the old. Also, review the guidelines in case they’ve changed since you’ve last read them.

Ring Visitors: Thanks for bearing with us as we make this unforseen transition.
